car wont turn over

alrighty, car sat for the past 4 months for a head gasket R&R, but now wont turn over. it sounds like it wants to but doesnt. I let the battery charge up, and when I turn the key on, the voltage goes up near 13, but when I Start to crank, it drops to the yellow zone. I put stp fuel additive in the gas since its old gas. my plug wires are all connected and in the right spots. I just dont want to over charge the battery, since i noticed water leaking out near the top, so i figured it was time to take the charger off. there is also an SES light, but alas, no scanner

anyone have any ideas? ive got an open ypipe and i want to hear this ****er scream!(its been a long time )

If the motor is not turning over at all, throw a battery in it. Water leaking at the top doesn't sound good.

Does it turn over at all? If not its probably your battery. Just ignore the water on top and let it charge on low for a while. Its all good. Or you can turn the charger on high/boost and crank it over with the charger on it. Then let it run for a long while to top the battery off. If it dont hold a charge, and still has trouble starting, you'll need a new battery. Good luck.

all i get out of it is that cranking sound "juh juh juh", then it sounds like it wants to turn over, since I can hear some "blup" from the exhaust but it does that, then goes back to the "juh juh". I tried with the charger on high and starting it, still doesnt work

im hoping all it is is the batt

Does it turn over at the normal speed, or slower? If its slower than normal, its probably a battery problem. If its turning over at the normal speed, you may have other problems.

If the battery has sat long enough that it has a bad cell in it now, the chargers high setting probably wouldnt help much either.

i took the battery to autozone today, and it test around 12.2X volts. I Had them charge it a little more for the hell of it. I Came home, cleaned the terminals really good, and fire it up. cranked at a normal speed, turned on kinda slow, then died. Again, volts barely at the 13 when in the on postion, but as I Crank, they drop the the yellow

my check gauges light is on, which leads me to beleive its the alt., since last time I saw that light, whas when my belt fell off and the alt wasnt even running.

I'll take the alt and stater to autozone and have them test them tomorrow

Since you have not started your car in months, the alt is not going to have anything to do with it. The starter might, but I would say you just need a new battery. Batteries don't like to sit for a long time and if it was not so good a few months ago, it's probably dead, now.

my instructor at UTI said that because the volts drop below 7 when cranking, the battery is trash. needs a minimim of 9.6 i believe is what he said
