Thumbs down Car won't start when it rains!

It started doing this last fall. It'll crank and try to turn over, but doesn't. I am getting spark and fuel. Since December, I've replaced the opti, water pump, ignition control module, coil wire, fuel pump relay and MAP sensor. It's still not starting after it rains. It can be a light rain or a heavy rain. It won't start until about 2 days later.

I've also checked some grounds and they are fine.

Anyone have this problem before? I'm about to give up and sell it.

You sure the PCM isn't grounding out? It can get wet when it rains, it's possible yours isn't sealed correctly. Maybe you can borrow someone else's PCM and try it out.

Yeah, check the PCM and fuse blocks (interior one as well) for water when they get wet. Better yet remove them and inspect for corrosion or some kind of water damage. If you are 100% sure that your ignition is firing, then I would remove and inspect the PCM first, then the fuse blocks. When it rains I get water near my PCM sometimes. Especially if I am parked with my nose up hill.

Good luck, sounds like a PITA to find, but probably not a hard fix when you do find it.

Fuse blocks are fine. I'll have to check the PCM. Hopefully, that's it. Unfortunately, I don't have anyone's to borrow.

I've never cracked the case on the PCM, but I bet someone on the Programming/Computer forum has. Maybe there is a weather seal that is no good? If you can safely open it, you might be able to see residue from where water has leaked in and dried. If that's the issue, maybe you could just reseal the unit. RTV maybe?

I have OVC Taylors with less than 10,000 miles on them. I've checked them and they look good to me.

I checked the PCM out and it seems to be ok. I didn't open it up because the torx screws on one side didn't wanna budge. I also cleaned some more ground wires. Car still won't start. I'm about to give up.

I might be wrong here, but I would see if you can borrow someone's coil and see if that's it.

I doubt that's it because I have an Accel supercoil with under 10,000 miles on it, but I am going to replace it anyway

I'm going to replace my Taylor wires w/MSDs, the Accel coil w/an MSD and the ACdelco plat plugs w/ NGK TR55s. Hopefully, this fixes my problem. If not, then I am out of ideas.

Is the car getting rained on when this happens? I mean, is the body of the car wet? Does it do this when you wash your car? Will it crank once then after you drive it in the wet, does it not crank?

well

I had this problem with my Caprice. It happened mostly when it rained but not always just when it rained.

Any ways it turned out being a lose wire. The one the plugs into the coil i would check all your wires that go to the coil, Maybe have a friend crank the engine while you shack the wireing harnes in difrent spots and see if you can get her to fire at all

It happens when the car is wet and it happens when the car is covered in the rain. Did not happen at the car wash.

I took the coil out and cleaned all those connections and wires and it still does it, but I guess I could try looking there again.
