Car Wont Start - Please Help!!
OK , heres what I got. I have a 96 Camaro Z28. I was on my way back from school today, and the car dies as I pulled into my garage, and the car wouldnt re-start. What would happen is it would crank, and try to turn over, but it wouldnt stay running. I got it to at least stay running with my foot on the gas, keeping it running, but without me giving it gas, it would immediately die. I unplugged the MAF, and the car started up and ran, with no problem. After driving it around with the MAF off, after the car got warm, there would be a nasty loud and hard pinging sound when I would try to accellerate with more than 10% throttle or so. I took the car back in the garage, and I tested the pink wire on the MAF, as well as the ground wire, and they are both fine. When the MAF is unplugged, the CPU throws a P0100 code, but when it is hooked back up, I can clear the cpu (even thought the car wont start), it doesnt throw the code until I run the car without the MAF....AND it never threw a code when it dies originally, once again, not until i disconnected the MAF)
I had a different (used, but good) stock MAF, so I replaced it, and the same things are happening....
Any ideas? I need to get this fixed BAD and quick so I can have a reliably running car!!!
Anything helps!! Thank You in advance

im not so sure about that. I had a similar set of issues runign round. I would disconnect the MAF and after a few attempts the car would start and run...would run hard but would run. Plugge din MAF and it wouldnt start. I took the elbow off and everhting opene dup the butterflies and there was a little "smoke" that came out. Atomized gas I beleive.
a few things to check. Check your coil to opti plug wire. I was running an MSD 6al on stock wires, ran fine for a few k miles but then it blew the coil wire. Well the wire was arcing to the water pump hose clamp and sometimes I could even hear in the speakers a feedback sound that I had never gotten before. Likewise a few times my XM unit wouldnt turn on. Fixed the wire and everythign and guess waht? problems solved.
being that the MAF, ICM, and Coil Pack harnesses are all in that same area as the coil wire, it would be possible for one to be getting an arc. Give that a shot and see. Another thing, make sure the MAF is facing the right direction. A firend of mine bought his car, drove it for a few months and then it started messing up. He poped the hood and saw that the MAF was in backwards. So you never know.

Get a multimeter and check the voltages on the MAF, ICM, and Coil wires while you move them around.
You might be getting an intermittent short/hot there.
I have a flaky hot on the green wire that goes into the coil that I found while testing the green wire on the ICM connector. Testing it, I would get voltage. If I moved the ICM connector the voltage would disappear.
If I touched the coil connector, I would get voltage again. The connector wasn't making contact 100% of the time.
Another thing to check if you have some miles on the car and crumbly old wires.
