Car Wont start!!! NOT CRANKING!

I've been having Problems starting my car. It all happend after taking my car to get an alignment... then a couple days later it started happening. You turn the key in the ignition and nothing. The car primes itself up then you turn the key and no Starter action... since I had a bad starter anyway I went and replaced it with a New one. Got an LT-4 Starter... strapped it in... and nothing still... So I unbolted it... had somone turn the key to see if it the starter gear would emerge... but nothing. The new starter isn't working so I'm back to ground 1. Just what in the H3ll can it be? There was another post about a guy having the same issue... I can't find it bout someone said somehting about a wire under the dash? What should I check?!? I'm baffled on this one.

Try connecting a direct power source to the sloenoid terminal and see if it works, if not you got a bad starter. If it works it sounds like your ignition switch has gone out. Im not sure what they cost but im sure theyre no too bad. They are on the top of the column under the dash, not too hard to put but in but definetly a pain in the a$$. Hope that helps.

An auto parts store should be able to check it.

Re: Car Wont start!!! NOT CRANKING!

yeah.. the guy just told me... to bad they closed 2 minutes ago...

Any other way to do it?

you know When I turned my car... on one time it started to start... but it was struggling... I pumped the clutch pedal a few and as I had the ignition engaged and the car started... does that sound like a bad ignition switch or Starter?

Thanks

Thanks... I'll try checking naything that doesn't mean I'll have to remove the steering assembly... that looks like a long project.... and I'm already behind on my current work.

Kinda sounds like an ignition switch. When you turn the key it could do a number of things....

Just click
nothing at all
start fine
start lazy

Basically its not letting enough power through to the starter, or none at all. You could hook up the ground wire on the solenoid and breifly touch the power wire to a battery and if it engages my money is on the switch almost 100%, but be carefull if you try this.
My only other guess would be since your car is M6, it could be the neutral safety switch, but im not putting my guess there. The auto parts store should be able to test all 3 of those if need be (starter, ignition switch, neutral safety switch).

If it turns out to be the ignition switch, Swapping it out only takes about an hour. You dont have to pull the whole column out, you just have to drop it down a bit to get access to the switch. It is on the top part of the Steering column.

Re: Car Wont start!!! NOT CRANKING!

Ok... last thing... You guys are pretty good...

So what do you think of this...

When my car first had this problem you'd put the key in fire her up regularly... then you'd drive somewhere... turn it her off...

Then come back to the car 15 minutes later or so... and "No Dice" ... You can keep turning... and nothing... then maybe 30-45 minutes later you can come back to the car and she'll start like nothing ever happend at all... What the fudgens is that about?

Oh yeah...

And lastly when I was at the Shoppe working on the car... the above formentioned happend... and I couldn't get the car to start after I turned it off... so We pushed the car onto the rack... lifted her up and I turned the key and the guy helping me did the screw driver trick to start the car. I could hear the solinod struggling a bit then she came right on...

Are those symptoms of a bad Ignition switch?

I just want to be sure...

Thanks for all your help ... I appreciate it...

When my switch was bad that is exactly what it would do. Sounds like it is time for a new ignition switch.
