A few days ago i went to start my car and nothing happened. I tried a few more times and it turned over for about half a second then stopped, tried one more time and it started up. I did this a few times over a few days time, so i figured my ignition was getting worn or needed cleaned. I went to the races at noble and left the car at the shop, got back and now it wont turn over at all. I fires right up with the remote start but once you hit the brakes it kills it like the key is not in there. the ignition seems to work though cause when i turn it to the start position it turns off the radio and everything till you let go and then turns them back on. You think it is the ignition or something else on the car, or something in the alarm?

car 94z, alarm viper 1 mile range(cant remember the model)

 

Check your battery cables or state of charge of your battery.

 

Sounds like you have some bad wiring with the remote starter... go through all that wiring with a fine-tooth comb.

 

battery is a new red top optima and wires are all good 2ga cable

thats not good there is a million wires. any idea where to start lol

 

Break out the owners/installation manual for the Remote start. You said yourself that's where the problem lies...

Read your quote... It starts fine with the remote start, but not with the key alone. That says right there where the problem is. It could be a bunch of different things with the remote start; from a shoddy installation job that's now failing, to a module that's going bad.

 

thnk ill just tow it up to the install shop that did it. suppose to have lifetime warranty so well see what happens

 

was having that problem with mine and turned out to be the ignition switch that sits on top of the column. got to drop it down and get it off and see if its burnt. this is a common issue with them burning up and you got no crank signal going to the pcm and no crank.

 

Sounds like the ignition switch is bad. The radio is driven by a separate contact of the ignition switch then the engine. Being that it starts by remote removes the possibility of a bad battery. Sounds like the contacts in the switch that energize the heavy pink wires are bad. Take a test light and see if you get power on the heavy pink wires coming off the key switch when the ignition is in the on position.

 

i have to pull the steering wheel for this?

 

You don't have to pull it, but it can make life easier.

 

And remember to be careful not to hit the air bag wires, or you might get a little surprise...

i pulled it out today and the ign. switch had some burnt spots on the prongs, i ohmed it out compared to a new one and it was faulty. ill put it all back in tommorrow and that should fix it..
