Car Wont Start
Car Wont Start
ok so i was driving down the freeway in my 94 z28, go to put on the gas and the engine wont rev up. the engine had died while i was rolling down the freeway. so i pull over and the engine wont start, battery is good and it will crank and crank, just not turn over. does anyone know what could have gone wrong? let me know what other info you guys need. thank you.
Re: Car Wont Start
Check for spark at the spark plug and at the coil. If you have spark then crank the motor while spraying some carb cleaner or gasoline in the TB blades to see if it fires.
Dont replace any parts till you know which part isnt working.

Re: Car Wont Start
still no firing. im starting to suspect it could be the fuel pump. because when i first died on the freeway, the car would start and studder for a second than die. now after trying to fire it many times, it wont start at all, just keeps cranking. could i be in the right direction?
Re: Car Wont Start
Well you need a fuel pressure tester, it costs about 40 bucks from sears. It screws on to a scherder(sp) valve on the back of your fuel rail, and it gives you a pressure reading if it falls into spec its good if not you probably have a bad fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator.

Pull off a spark plug wire and lay it over something so you can see the inside metal contact. Have a buddy turn the motor over while you stare at the inside of the spark plug wire. If you see a spark then you know you have spark... the only other ingrediant to a running motor is then fuel. So next you can stick your nose in the throttle body to know if it smells like raw gasoline or spray something flamible into the throttle body as your buddy cranks the motor. If it fires then youll know its a fuel related problem.
You need a fuel pressure guage to check the fuel pressure. On the back, top edge of the intake manifold is the fuel pressure regulator. It is right beside the fuel lines where you see them run into the fuel rail lines on the intake. On top of the regulator is a black cap and if you unscrew it youll find the schrader valve that the fuel pressure guage screws into to get your reading but if you hear the fuel pump kick on then you most likely have pressure. Of course that doesnt mean your injectors are firing though.
