You don't need an adjustabel FPR---but it won't hurt to get a FP guage which includes the gage, a hose, and an angled connection that will easily fit the valve (take a look at it on firewall, pass side w/ the little cap on it so you can get the right fitting.) FP should read 43-46 with vac hose off (simulating WOT). Should read about 8 less when hose connected.

Have you checked to make sure your Idle Air Control IAC is working? Doesn't hurt to clean the TB either---just in case your problem is that you are not getting sufficient air when you first start the engine without foot on pedal.

May be a problem of air rather than fuel.JMHO

BTW: even though you say that the PCM is not the culprit, it would be wise to borrow one from a friend, or buy a cheapie stocker and install it to see if it makes a difference. The idea is to eliminate possible culprits one at a time until you have the problem isolated---you can screw around with the thing forever, but if it is the PCM and you don't eliminate it, you are IMHO subjecting yourself to unwarranted stress.

i didnt know that that was how that system worked.

I know it sounds cooky, but mine turned over fine as well. When they go bad, they just need a little extra help (fuel) to get things rolling. When I did mine, it would crank for 10-15 seconds, and it would sound fine. Put the new one in, and it would start up in 1-3 seconds.

Any resolution on your problem yet? Kind of wondering what the culprit is. Hope you get it figured out.

Yeah it was my MSD 6A module. He took it out and plugged my OE ignition back in and worked but it had been flooded once pretty bad and it wet fouled theplugs so I had him install a new set (lucky guy). All is fine and dandy now
