Car temp

My car seems to stay at 120-140 all the time. It takes forever to warm up. Is this bad for performance? What should it be at? How can I fix it? I have a 93 so my gauge starts at 200 and goes to 260. I have a 160 thermostat, and my fans have been reprogramed when I put the chip for the cam in. THNX

When your car takes a long time to warm up, it runs rich which washes the lubrication off of the cylinder walls. Yes, it can be bad especially if you drive the car cold or put the engine under load.

When do the fans turn on?

Also, since you dropped in the 160 Stat it doesn't mean that it is working properly. You can get a pan fill it with water and drop the thermostat in. As the temperature increases, the thermostat will open. You can check to see it open with a thermometer at about 160*F.

It may be stuck open... not good

sorry for the threadjacking, but I have a question that is kinda on target with this thread. I have the stock hood for my 95 Z. I was wondering the other day about the 2 air intakes on teh hood. I know they aren't functional, and was wondering what it would have hurt for chevy to make them functional. Cars overheat, so why didn't they just go ahead and make them do something?

It ok, I would rather ask a stupid question than try to fix a stupid mistake. I think the problem with makin them functional is that water would get in there and sit on the motor. Other than that I don't know. I'll try a search. Hold on

It would be nice to hook up a scan tool and see what temp the ecm is actually seeing and compare it to your gauge. Maybe your gauge is wrong.

New guy- Do a search for "heat extractors" to much info to list here.
Shoe- good point. I am waiting on the new USB AKM cable to come out. Then I will know alot more about what this car is doing.
