Car is starving for fuel ... Help ASAP

I finally got my car started ( Sort of ) today. It would crank and crank and crank, but nothing, so i sprayed starter fluid in the intake manifold, put the elbow on , cranked it , started rite up rumbled for a few seconds and then died. Cheched the Schrader Valve with the key in the ON posistion ... Just a little sizzle of fuel then nothing. I can hear the fuel pump kicking on. This car has sat for at least 6 years. I added 5 gallons of premium and fuel injector cleaner as well as dry gas. The gas smells a little bit varnished but wouldnt be enough to keep it from running. I sprayed the fuel lines into a coffea can before hooking them up to get some of the old **** outta them before hooking it up. It sprayed about 2 or 3 inches of fuel into it in about 5 to 6 seconds, however this only started to SPRAY when it was cranking. At the one posistion it sprayed for a second then died ... My question is , is it possible that it could be the Fuel Pump from sitting, The fuel fliter which will most likely be replaced tommorow, or did i hook the lines up wrong ? The fuel line and return line , which one is which on the fuel system... One was about an inch and a hlaf longer then the other and i assumed it went on the fuel line connector that was further back on the engine ( The vertical one ) and the shorter one connected to the horizontal fuel line connecter. So why is my car dying for fuel ? Also I will be checking the injectors to make sure its not the computer taking a crap and screwing the car up also.... Keep in mind the car has sat for at least 6 years , possibly even since 1996 ... O and it is OBDII even though it is a 95

The pressure aint THAT high like it should be either. When i was spraying it into the coffea can it took about 5-6 seconds of cranking the motor to fill about 2 or 3 inches and if i had to guess a PSI id say less then 25 ... So could it be the filter instead of the pump ? I hear the pump turnin on and stuff ... My cousin got under the car and hit the tank with a mallet while i cranked it ( He said at work if its a pump startin to go that it causes sputtering so its worth a try ) didnt change , still wouldnt start inless i added starterfluid , and then it dies out as soon as it burns off
