Had similar problem.

I had a very similar problem with my Z. It would start up fine, but would end up dying after a few seconds. The problem ended up being a torn intake elbow. Luckily, the tear was right where the elbow connects to the throttle body, so all i had to do was reposition the clamp past the tear and that fixed the problem. My car has not died after starting since this fix. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Make sure you check the fuel pressure.

I don't know what else it could be.

Unplug the MAF and see if it will run. It sounds like unmetered air after the MAF. Do you have A/C? If so turn it off. Another problem could be IAC. When you push the gas down does it rev normally or sputter and kick?

I'm guessing its the IAC.. my '93 Z does the same exact thing. I think you can get it at Autozone or Advanced Auto Parts for around $60-$65.

Ha, I love LT1's. I just went through all of that, replaced absolutely everything, had good fuel pressure, getting spark...it was the ignition switch on the back of the steering column...$27, and took me about an hour to replace, shoebox has instructions on his site. Your symptoms were mine exactly. Would not start unless you got it to fire, and held the gas down to bring the rpm's up....good luck

no you shouldn't have been anywhere near it when you installed the stereo. It is mounted to the steering column. Its a PITA to get to.
