Question Car sounds like a Diesel

Ok, not all the time, but it is enough to be annoying. It mainly sounds the worst when I just start it up and it is cold outside. After it warms up then it isn't so bad, but I can still hear it sometimes. Anybody know what could be causing this? Obviously the higher the rpm the louder it gets. I never have this problem in the summer when it is warm, only in the cold...

probably piston slap. gm vehicles are notorious for that. is there anyway you could get a video or sound clip of the car when its making the sound?

I probably could get a video of it....now uploading it and hosting it could be another problem. It has just started doing it recently, but it is very annoying. It is hard to explain without somebody hearing it. It really does sound like a diseal engine, but only when it is really cold. Seems like once the engine gets warm or even after a minute or so of driving it sounds pretty much like normal. The sound is always there is seems, just much quieter after the initial noise. I'll try to get a sound clip of it.

Most likely piston slap, you can either deal with it or get it fixed. Either way, it won't hurt your motor.

When last I checked, piston slap doesn't sound like a diesel engine. My Vortec engine had the same problem. Just came out of nowhere when it turned cold. The coolant level was a little low. It turned out to be the intake gaskets where leaking until the engine warmed up and then sealed up.

I suggest you check both the resevoir and the radiator level if it's been doing it for a while.
