Car is smoking but its not coolant?
Ok, i put up post on here the other day in regards to a Head Gasket leak, well it turns out not to be a head gasket leak btu a faulty wter pump thats eatin up my coolant so they say, i replaced the water pump and the car still smokes...although it is maintaining pressure in the coolant sys....the smoke is like a whitish color but doesnt carry the odor of burning coolant or oil....what the hell could it be? I have an exhaust leak at the Y-pipe and Manifold...could that affect it?
yeah i have considered that, but why would something drip onto it and it burn out of the pipe itself? and if indeed its cold winter condensation should i just let it run and see if it stops smokin ? WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Sorry I'm not sure about the previous post but do you still have a working cat? Has it been run long enough to cook out the moisture that was inside?
Interesting question for others is what does coolant do to O2's? I know many lubricants and solvents will screw them up. Just curious didn't mean to use your thread for a debate.
I would say to keep an eye on all the fluid levels and try running for a longer time to see what happens. May want to idle it instead of pushing it just incase. Hope everything is ok.

Hey I just thought about something. How could your water pump leak and cause you to blow smoke? The only leaking the water pump could do is to the outside. A faulty water pump will not make you burn coolant. Sounds like you had 2 problems. One you fixed and the smoke if it's not normal(seasonal not withstanding) could be something else. Sorry about the brain fart, should have thought of that earlier.
Need to think about that more.

well the Cat is about as useless as a $2 *****....it went poof a while ago and i havent removed it yet. The water pump i have just put on seems to be doing pretty well, i got my heat back at least, there is no coolant smell in the vents at all and the smoke coming out of the exhaust appears to be extrememly rich exhaust almost as if i am burning fuel, which would explain my extremely ****ty gas mileage... I also read an exhaust leak before the Cat could cause it to smoke....i have one of those, a leak at the y-pipe and manifold....i am putting on Hooker LT's tomorrow so that will eliminate the exhaust leak....I guess we see what happens
I did not reply to the other post but i still think you have a head gasket problem. If im not mistaken you said the oil was slightly milky. There is one way to check this quickly pop off rad cap start car if you blow any fluid out the top of rad you got compression leaking from cyl. What color is the smoke? Does it smell like oil or coolant? If its black then its fuel and would explain you bad gas milage. If its fuel go scan car and get o2 readings! Pull a spark plug and look at what color it is and smell it. keep posted
the smoke smells like oil nor coolant. It just smells like extrememly rich exhaust, the car doesnt overheat. If i take off the radiator cap and start the car, all is normal, as the car heats up it will cycle the coolant through normally. now if the car has been runnin a substantial amount of time, then u try to take the cap off, coolant everywhere from the pressure...none of this is makin sense over here. Could it be a blown Catalac conv + an exhaust leak before the Cat causing the smoke?
I didn't read your other post about the head gasket. Milky oil is not good, it points to a bad head gasket. How did you correct that problem? Did you change the oil and filter? If you did is it getting milky again? Does the exhuast burn your eyes? If it is rich it will burn your eyes, if it's really bad then it will blow black. White smoke is not the color of rich exhuast. You should pull the plugs like 94slug said. That's one of the best ways to read an engine. And as long as you have the duals then you might as well put them on to eliminate the exhaust leak. An exhaust leak (at the manifold) can cause other problems like burning valves. You should probably replace those O2 while you're there and then you'll likely see an improvement in gas mileage.
Woops! One other thing. If the oil was milky before and it still is slightly milky then do a leak down test. That will tell you for sure if you have a bad head gasket. It will take a long time to do all this. You have your work cut out for you. Good luck.
Good deal guys... on my way home i ragged her out a lil bit, drug a ricer all the way down the highway and not once did i see a bit of smoke, pulled in the driveway and gave her some good revs and still no smoke, not even close to overheating. I ran some of that total suel treatment and STP oil treatment through her last night....There isnt really any white residue in the oil, my drain bolt is stripped out so i cant drain the **** yet tilli get a fix for it but i have a decent oil leak and it looks like oil to me (oil leak from opti and crank seal, crank bolt sheared off, need to get pulled out to fix) so yeah, my car has its share of issues, but we will see 2morrow when i pull the plugs and the manifolds and a lot of other crap.
Ok guyz the Headers are in. Jet Hot Hooker LT's. Also did plugs/wires while i was in there. The alternator isnt hooked up correctly cause my voltage is sh*t and its not charging the batt. But im not smoking so i believe it was an exhaust leak mixed with fouled plugs or something, but the car runs good. Thanks for all the help.

. Now i would go to the 02s and egr. For sure need to get a scan for some 02 reading and BLMS. Pull a plug from each head.
