Car running like crud
Car running like crud
This just started happening recently... the car shakes itself violently under any throttle but felt especially at lower RPM's, At first I was thinking maybe plug wire, but since I'm blowing fuses too, Only the Courtousy(sp?) lamp fuse.. but it's blown it 3 times which makes me think I've got a short somewhere or a grounding issue.. I've already replaced the plug wires and the coil and my MSD is still good. I'm not wondering if maybe my Alternator is going out, cause it is making a nice whining noise. Although my battery is still retaining a full charge, so I dunno.. Help someone please, tired of throwing money at it.
Re: Car running like crud
Does the car throw any codes at all when it shakes?
If you have some exposed wires one of them may be a sensor for the car...wired in with your courtesy system... which might cause the fuse to blow. I do know the Theft...and Cruise systems are tapped into the courtesy setup... but it can be anything really... just a thought.

Re: Car running like crud
It's OBD-1 so I don't have a lot of codes but it doesn't throw any, It idles just fine, doesn't shake at idle when I give it gas Only in gear... someone said if I fried the diodes in the altonator it could be throwing current to the grounds, I'm not sure how much validity there is to that, but maybe someone can correct me. Another person just told me my motor mount could have gone bad, and is pinching a wire.

I know what you mean about the OBDI PCM. I've noticed mine only seems to like throwing a code for things that don't cause much of a problem running. Like when I accidently poked a hole in the MAP sensor, it coped with it and ran fine, but the SES light made sure I didn't forget it. Mean time opti was missing and sending ridiculous info to the PCM causing it to jump way up in idle and try to launch itself..........no code.
So, only in gear under load. That is strange. I have no idea about the alternator diode theory.
I'm at a loss on this one it seems. Only thing I can think of to ask is if you're sure the shake is caused by how the engine is running, or if it relates to the transmission somehow. All 6 gears and reverse? Or even worn motor or trans mounts causing misalignments in proportion to the engine's torque output? I'm sorry I may not be much help.
