Car Quest Oil Pan Gasket

I just bought a oil pan gasket from them. It is rubber and specific to the lt1. Do you think it is as sufficient as an oem? It was a like $10 less than the dealer. Should I just go to the dealer or is a rubber gasket a rubber gasket?

it will be fine as long as the bolts are thightened as they should and silicone is applyed around the corners and ends. the only way for a one peace gasket to leak is having the bolts come loose or the silicone at the ends stops sealing

Ok, that's good to hear. Thanks jtk.

As far as the sealant is concerned, how do you make sure it's a good seal? Looking at the leak area, I even had excess sealant hanging over the lip of the half moon area and it still leaked. Maybe I used too much last time?

Ahhh... real gaskets don't require silicone. ;)

... IE> Felpro oil pan gasket. :)

Car Quest stuff is fine, we use their stuff everyday at our shop. You'll find that Victor Renz makes that gasket.

Yup, it's that victor reinz gasket. Car quest told me that the local dealerships usually call them for parts like that as well.
