In car Oil Pan Removal without trans
In car Oil Pan Removal without trans
So I've got the trans out being rebuilt, the cars sitting on stands and my oil pans got a nice rust spot on the front and has been slowly leaking for a while now. I figure this is a good time to replace it and the rear main seal.
My question being, with my tranny/flywheel out is there anyway to get a new pan in there without lifting the engine? Will it just slide out? It will be a stock replacement pan going in.
I replaced the motor mounts last year and it was a pita. Not to mention i had the heads off then, so i just hoisted the engine by the threads for the heads. Not sure howd Id lift it up now...
If only there was room in the garage for a cherry picker and the happy hooker.

Seems like should be room to get the Happy Hooker and a lift in. My cherry picker doesnt boom out far enough and I have to come in from the passenger side and lift straddles front tire. I also just pop the hood struts and push the hood back further to the windsheild and support it.I just changed my oil pump a few weeks ago and had to lift motor and drop k member(left k member attached at upper fenders worked nicely. Im pretty sure you will have to drop the k member or lift the motor but not positive.

Re: In car Oil Pan Removal without trans
The problem with the happy hooker is that I dont own a cherry picker and couldnt fit one in the garage even if I did. Ive got a hoist that sits on top of the struts with a bar across the engine bay, using chains so support the weight, not sure what the technical name would be. It worked great when i had somewhere to attach it. I just dont want to have to pull off the intake or heads again simply to lift the engine. Was hoping since my trans is out thered be an easier way to pull the pan.
Wouldn't dropping the k member also lower the engine since the mounts are sitting on it? Or am I missing something I thought it was just 6 bolts holding the the kemeber as a whole to the chassis. So lowering it was more to get a better angle to clear the trans. Ive never had to play with the kmemeber, thats just the impression I got from searching the web.
thanks for the quick reply

the motor would need supported as you would have to pull the motor mount bolt to seperate from the kmember. yes the kmember is three bolts per side and the two strut mount ones if your removing it.
