Car just shut off by itself?!
I started my car up. It was a hot day so I turned on the ac right away. i usually wait a bit to start the ac but i didnt this time. Im in reverse, backing out of my driveway, foot on the break, waiting for people to walk by and all of a sudden car shuts off while im in reverse and the check gauges light goes on. I put the car back into park and turn the key off, start the car again and it starts up right away no problem. Any idea why that happened?

JDBlaze85..you must own a hot rod car lot dude!
This was happening to my car recently and it was my Ignition Control Module going out on me. Could be coil or coil wire too. Did the car sputter any or just cut off without warning of any kind?
Also some auto parts stores can test your COIL or ICM for you for free.

my car did this too..... hot day, backed out put it in drive and it didnt go..... stalled out almost.... but its a auto... hmmmm.... i guess its kinda comforting to know that other peopels cars are doin it too and not just mine, lol.... but this happened a good month or so ago, and it works fine now
Intresting to see some other people have the same problem. I told my mechanic the problem. Hes a very good freind of mine. Ive known him since elementary school. You know what his answer was? These freaky things happen! I couldnt stop laughing when he told me that. But he was very serious. Hes a mechanic for bout 10 years now. So he knows what hes talking about. He said it could have been a million diffrent things. Sensor might not be reading something right and so on. He said as long as the car started up again without any problems and the gauges are fine ure good to go. Its great to have a really good friend whose a mechanic
.
those things do happen...but they happen for a reason.
something is making it happen. check a few things.
1. fuel filter.
2. fuel pressure
3. clean throttle body.
4. coil and wires
5. plugs
6. icm
7. opti

i have an m6 formula... warm day, car had been driven in stop go traffic for about 2 hours. pull up to an intersection---car dies... before i let the clutch out, that means it wasn't driver error. The only difference here is that the car would not restart for me, though (this happened on a saturday morning) it did start up for the mechanic i had it towed to on the next monday. It hasn't given me a problem since and I still don't know what caused it to die.
