Car heating up and running slow
Car heating up and running slow
I took the car out last friday and it started getting really hot. Granted i'm in texas and its like 90 degress but it usually still doesn't get up to 210 in 2 runs back to back. it has a low fan turn on temp and a 160 temrostat so it usually doesn't pass liek 180. Just wondering if anyone has any idea what maybe wrong? It's a 95 lt1
Re: Car heating up and running slow
i would definitely say something is wrong maybe your fans arent turning on.. or your thermostat is broken. with a 160 degree stat it shouldnt be getting near 210 even in that weather. Mine doesnt go over 180 here in arkansas and we routinely have 90-100 degree days
Re: Car heating up and running slow
yours fans are definetly on or else your car would over heat. when was the last time u changed the coolant. my 94 formula coolant fans went out a long time ago. i eventually made a switch under my dash to cut it on when i want to. even when i cut the fans on as soon as i start the engine if i am driven for 20 miles or so my car temp is 210 when i stop.
the thing is there are a number of things that can go wrong with the cooling of your engine.
check the following:
coolant
temp sensor
thermostat
water pump
also get under your car and check the radiator for any kind of trash (grass etc), mine has a tendency to get grass stuck on the front of the radiator
in case you dont no what im talking about there is an open airway to the front of the radiator just behind your front bumber

Re: Car heating up and running slow
All fluid were fine. I did add a lil coolant but it wasn't really low. The fans were fine and you can here them turn on. So i'm not exactly sure what caused it to heat. I didn't know about the radiator and it was the first thing i checked but its all clean under there. I dunno what it is.
Re: Car heating up and running slow
you may not just need to add coolant you may need to do an intire flush.
and also did you check the water pump. sometimes water pumps might not work to there full potenial. poor water cylulation can cause jumps in the temp. if this propbelm doesnt bother you that much a dont recommend to any work on the water pump because IT IS A JOB. also if you dont put the seal on correctly you could make a costly mistake that is with distributer.

Re: Car heating up and running slow
doing water pumps is easy... and what does it have to do with the distributor??? Its as simple as removing the air intake... taking off the hoses, and its 6 bolts... simply scrap the old gaskets, use new ones, and some gasket sealer, and the opti will be just fine... ive had my water pump off 5 or 6 times, and my buddies another 3 or 4... no problems.
