Car is flooded?

O.K. guys, I need your help. I've owned my 94Z for about 7 months and on 3 different occasions it has sat overnight and not wanted to start in the morning. It would crank and crank and crank and finally after I floored the gas pedal the car would sputter, cough up lot's of smoke out the tailpipe, and then run perfectly. Other than these 3 occasions, the car starts perfectly every time and runs sweet. I've done lots of searches but there's something I don't understand- if my opti is going bad would I have to floor the accelerator to get it to start? I'm thinking fuel pump but was wondering if anyone has had an opti act this way? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Car is flooded?

I'd say not opti, it gets blamed for almost everything IMO. Sounds more like leaky injectors drbbling fuel into the intake after shut down. Dirt or debris between injector pintle & seat will alow residual fuel press to leak past a bad injector. try running a couple of tanke of gas with good quality injector cleaner thru it. If it fixes it great, if it only improves it or changes the symptoms a bit, you might have to pull the injectors 7 try the manual cleaning, or replace them,
good luck, post up your results,
Ian
