Verify that your fuel pressure doesn't drop off when the fuel pump completes its priming; just hook a fuel pressure gauge to your schrader valve on the fuel rail. If the pressure doesn't hold steay after priming chances are that the check valve in your fuel pump has failed.

Also check to see if any fuel comes out of the vaccume line to the fuel pressure regulator. Meaning you have a bad regulator and it bleeds off fuel into the intake. That was my prob.

Replace your fuel filter first, then do what he suggested. The fuel filter is always over looked, but if clogged it robs you of power, and makes starting harder.

I've done that already, last fall...around October or so...could it have anything to do with my pick up coil??

DUDE,
I am having the EXACT same problem, I was going to post the same thing, but you beat me too, it, I will check my fuel preasure and filter as well.
It normally takes 2-3 cranks then it fires, but one running, no problems at all.

Could be your fuel pump on the way out
Could be your plugs fouled up from the car running rich
Could be your ignition module on the way out

There's alot of things it could be.

Man this is not sounding good.
Ok I just got the car it has 130k, I will change the fuel filter, plugs, and pray it is not the ignition.

Re: Car doesn't start right up.....

i HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM...REPLACED FUEL FILTER...NO CHANGE...
WHAT I DO THOUGH IS FLIP THE KEY 2 - 3 TIMES OVER TO THE IGNITION WITHOUT CRANKING THE CAR TO LET THE PUMP PRIME UP AND IT STARTS UP FINE. IF I DONT DO THIS AND I ATTEMPT TO CRANK THE CAR UP IT WILL TAKE ABOUT 4SECONDS FOR IT TO START UP....

I had the same problem and it went away the more i drove it. My car sat a while and i replaced the filter and eventually it went away altogether. now it starts on the first crank.

Well I've had the same problem for a long time now, mine just rolled over 131K, I have replaced attempting to fix this issue: Opti, coil, ICM, fuel regulator, plugs (many times), plug wires, fuel filter, injectors, starter, new batt cables, new intake elbow. I have also tried priming the lines many times like 4 or 5 on offs of the ignition and it still doesnt start right up. Also I have a pressure guage and it holds steady at 42psi when the pump turns off. Kind of odd, sometimes it will just crank right up, but most the time it takes forever to fire. O yeah no error codes.
