car died today at light. (few times)

Yep on the way to this training for my new job. Started car up this morning ran fine until about 5 miles. Then came to a light and the rpms started dropping below 500 and then died. Tried starting it, but would not. I had to give it gas to get it started.. ODD...

Did this a few times. Also my MAP sensor light is on from teh SES. either the cam is too big and making low low vaccum or the map sensor went out.

any opinons?

low vaccum, high voltage is the code.

One of your vaccum hoses not on all the way? Go through and check all your hoses with the car running. My method is to leave it idle and pull a hose at a time to see if there is a change in rpm. Could also be the sensor.... if it was the cam you would have noticed this problem early on.

Exactly how "big" is your cam and how long have you had it in there?

Do you have ScanMaster or any tuning software to check your vacuum?

Had to give it gas to make it start eh?

Did you have to give it SOME gas, or did you have to hold the throttle wide open?

If you only had to give it some gas, I'd try resetting my IAC.

If you could only restart by holding WOT and cranking, that would put the car in 'flood clear' mode, and kill the fuel while you cranked with you throttle plate wide open to clear a 'flooded engine'. Is it running excessivly rich at idle? How do your plugs look? - JM.

Conclusions yet? Any word?

I had something like what you are discribing once then I had an intermittent 'open' inside my battery...tested fine, except when it would kill my running engine, or be a no start...I spent some time trying to track that one down. - JM.

Okay. Big question, when it stalled out. Did you remember if any cluster lights that came on? ABS, CHECK GAUGES, AIR BAG, SERVICE ENGINE SOON? Did any of those come on when it stalled? Just the regular start up lights?

nope no lights, just died. I think i need to bump up my idle rpm to about 800, cause i think its at 600 or so for my 236/242 cam.

Doesnt do it all the time but sometimes. Like if i race someone for a litlee over a 1/4 mile it will do it when i come to a idle.

Hmmm..I'm taking a big gamble by saying this. Your ICM may be going out. Mine has gone out 3 times. When it does stall. It just goes. No light no warning nothing. Could be...take it to a parts store. But their tricky. They start to fail when they're hot. It's a long shot.

Ignition Control Module. It's located on the driver's side head, above the coil.
