It might be just fixing to come completely loose and doing strange things.
Had a 8.90 drag car do that, the thing would make a full pass and come down the return road missing, popping, backfiring, ect. Take it and get on it in the lot and one time it would cut up and maybe the next two times it would be OK. Talk about scratching y're a**. Checked everything---Then pulled the dist cap after a couple of hour's of serious thrashing and walla-- We got to race that night.

Re: Car is a complete turd.

Well I figured out the problem with my tranny acting funny today. Turns out the TPS we put on the car is bad or something and was causing my tranny to shift at wierd points, we put the old one back on today and I havent had a problem with the tranny ever since. We also changed the fuel pump today. I have the trap door method done and I got free lifetime replacement from Autozone so it wasnt really a big deal to change it out. It feels like I might have gotten some of my power back. My car is still vibrating in OD and I am going to assume that it is either plug wires or the opti. We pulled one of the spark plugs to see what it looks like and it was fine and did not smell of fuel, tip was a nice tan/whitish color. I am going to go challenge my friend to a race and see how well my car does. Peace, Dustin.

Re: Car is a complete turd.

heh, i might be a bit late, but im gonna guess it's your injectors. a friend of mine had the exact...EXACT same problem (sputtering etc.)

here's what he posted on my site (vancouverfbody.com)

Parts $1248.77
Labour $1283.00
Taxes $237.25

Total $ 2769.02

The thing that really pisses me off is even after i popped in the new opti, the car still ran like **** and shook around at low rpms... Then my mechanic thought it might be clogged injectors, so they scanned my car and cylinder 5 was ****ing up so they ran there injector cleaner with there machine and problem fixed.... I know I totally got *** ****ed.. but whatever "LIVE AND LEARN".. I'm jus happy to get my car running normal again, and no bogs even when skip shift happens....

So $40.00 fixed this sharade that was going on for a month. ****ing clogged injector
hope that helps? maybe run some injector cleaner

We're going to change the opti today. I really want to rule out anything ignition related first and then move on to injectors or something. I have an electronic fuel injector tester so I could probably pull the fuel rail later and test the injectors one by one. Shouldnt take us more then a few hours to do the opti. Peace, Dustin.

Re: Car is a complete turd.

Well.....I found my problem today Before we started the opti install I decided what the hell I will check all my wires real quick. I pulled the #6 wire off the it was almost burnt in half. The only thing holding together was what little bit of electrode that was left in the middle of it. I put a new wire back on and the vibation in OD is gone and it feels like I got my power back. Just for referance, would a plug wire this bad cause me to loose that much time at the track even tho it wasnt completely missing out? I could feel that the power was breaking up as the RPM's got higher when I was running. Thanks for all the help guys I appreciate it. Peace, Dustin.

p.s. I will try and post a picture of the "plug wire" if I get a chance.

Re: Car is a complete turd.

Well....i guess I need to look for another burnt plug wire. It seems like the vibration has come back or it must just be normal for my car to vibrate like that. When I replaced that wire it was pretty much the first wire that I looked at and just assumed that it might have been the only one. I will look again tommorrow and if I dont find any others then I guess I will just have to live with the vibration. I need to get my car back to the track and see how much power I have gained back from finding that plug wire almost burnt in half.
