car broke.. 383 time? or no?
car broke.. 383 time? or no?
so i'm really scared and worried right now. My car started making a horrendous noise when i was driving and i pulled into a church. after a while, some guy came over and said it sounded like i blew a headgasket, or threw a rod. after hearing that i wanted to collapse! that means a lot of saving up i have to do, which i suppose wouldnt really be difficult but it might take a while.
I don't know what I should do however. I see all these LT1 engines for sale but I don't wanna spend the money on something thats going to be the same if not less reliable. I really want a 383.
Now I guess why i'm posting this is to get a rough estimate of how much everything would cost, and how I do it really. I'm assuming ~3-4k, but I dont know if I should buy the parts and take it to an engine builder, buy a complete motor and have someone put it in for me...
how much does taking an engine out and putting one back in cost? And who really does it? A speed shop?
What is my best option for a reliable, yet cost effective 383? I really don't want to half-*** it and have to pay double later on down the road. I'm considering waiting until someone posts a for sale on a 383 as well.
Please, any opinions are GREATLY GREATLY appreciated!!!

Re: car broke.. 383 time? or no?
I'd find out for sure what's wrong with your current engine first. Maybe it isn't something major, or fixable.
Im waiting for my engine to go and then look into a 355 or 383. Ive been keeping my eyes open for these engines. I myself would get a built engine, seems cheaper, faster, and less headache.
