Canton Pan Leak
Canton Pan Leak
i recently just got my motor in (forged 355/afr 210) and i have a canton pan on it.at first i thought i had a small leak out of the drain plug but above the drain plug is a bolt with a allen head and that is where it is leaking then traveling down.the bolt is located next to the start on top of one section of the pan.
anyone have a leak from this bolt,it didnt leak to bad until we ran the motor a handful of times then it left atleast a 1/4-1/2 a quart on the ground.
i was gonna take the bolt out but decided to just bead up some high temp rtv around the bolt and so far it hasnt leaked(couple hrs gone by)
tommorow i ll put another coat on,j/w if this is a common problem with these damn pans.

Re: Canton Pan Leak
I have the same leak on my Z with the same pan but not as much as you. couple table spoons. But same location. I was told when i drop the exhaust
take out the nut, wrap teflon tape around it, put it back in.

Re: Canton Pan Leak
I just noticed that bastard leaking on mine today! Why the hell is that even there??? No damn point as far as I can see... Im gonna have to drop the damn starter, drain the oil, and then pull it out and seal it up. Grrr what a pain. Like I said, I didn't even know that bastard was there until today.
Re: Canton Pan Leak
I just bought one of the new Moroso LT F-Body oil pans (PN 20185) along with matching pickup tube and high volume pump. It looks really good, although, it isn't installed yet and is going on a Golen 396 stroker.
Does anyone else have the new Moroso pan, and if so, how is it working out? Moroso said the stroker crank and rods will clear the windage tray

On mine, it looked like they used a straight thread instead of a tapered thread.
Re: Canton Pan Leak
godam i didnt figure anyone would reply to this.i also dont know why that godam allen bolt is there either.i tried using hi temp rtv around the bolt but that didnt work, its still leaking.for the people that did take the bolt out what size allen did you use, seems like the set i have its between 9 and 10.
i guess i ll try that teflon idea too, thanks guys.

Re: Canton Pan Leak
nvm guys i ended up getting the bolt out with my 9mm allen socket.teflon taped it and even did a very thin layer of that high temp rtv around the threads and put it back in.there goes another 6 quarts of fine mobil 1
down the drain.
i ll let you guys know if it stopped the leak,i ll just give it till tommorow and see if it worked.btw the oil had a almost gassey smell to it but i didnt see any gas floated to the top(dunno if it would though).does that mean it may be a tad rich? i still need the engine builder to come over and tweek it a bit.
