Can't jack up car...

How are you guys jacking up your Camaros??

I know a good place to jack our cars up at the front in under the lower control arm. But when I put my jack in place, there isn't enough room to "pump" it.. what should I do?

I've tried ramps before... but my tires are too wide (275s) The ramps have a lip on each side to keep normal sized tires from rolling off or whatever... but my tires sit right on that lip and bulge out.

Would all that load on my tires be ok just untill I get stands under the lower control arms? Thanks!

All kinds of places to jack it up, anywhere on the frame really...are you using a hydraulic jack or something? Get yourself a floor jack!

I have to use a floor jack to get it high enough for a bottle jack, then the bottle jack to get it high enough for the jack stands.

I can't just put it on any part of the frame.. it has to be far enough outward so I can pump the arm up and down.. I've used both hydraulic and floor jacks... it's all about clearance problems..

Drive it up on 2x8"blocks, and use the K-member, or rear end.

Do like I do...just get an 8' 2x6 and chop it in half. Now you have 2 4' sections. Cut off about 1/3 of the 4' lenght (I'll leave you do the math) and lay and line-up each "drop-off" on the longer piece and make sure the ends are also even and nail together one long and one short piece. Now you have 2 "step" ramps for a few $$$'s that work everytime. Just drive on and start jacking...

Are you lowered?

I'm not and my floor jack has a range of like 5" to 16". No trouble here.

152 in Canada for 96, only 147 of them sold in 96.

but anyways, why not use the pinch where it says to jack up the car?

I have used my ramps with 275 wide many times. have ot drive up onto a 2x6 befor the ramp or the bumper is too low though. the tires being on the rolled lip doesnt matter, as long as its on the ramps good enough.

Those are soooo long. I would make them a little shorter, so you could crawl under the side of the car more easily. They would not be as heavy, either. People have been using ghetto (or if you prefer-"hand crafted") ramps like that for as long as I can remember.

I use a combination of those in the mustang link and Rhino ramps. Only 1 layer of wood under the ramps and no major issues with the length as mentioned by Shoebox since they only extend past the length of the ramps towards the car about 1.5' or so. It's only an extra 2" higher, but it really helps (like when you're dropping the trans!). You just have to make sure to add in some stops/braces to keep the ramps from moving on the boards for when you drive on/off them.
