Cant get y-pipe off...

I'm trying to get my y-pipe off from my stock manifolds so i can install my headers, but i cant get the thing off. It came off from the cat back easy. I took the 3 nuts off each flange where it connects to the manifolds, but the flanges dont move after i've removed the nuts. Is there something i've missed here? I figured that after i removed the nuts that the flanges would come loose and slide off, but they wont budge. Have i missed something? Or are my flanges just stuck? Thanks for any help!

ACA Performance is right, the only thing holding the flanges together is rust. Try hitting the flanges with a hammer. If that doesn't work , try spraying the flanges with WD-40/ PBlaster and then repeat with hammer.

i've used PB Blaster on rusted stuff...much, MUCH better than WD40 (IMHO). it's only a couple bucks from Discount Auto, or some of the other auto parts stores...

if you've got a day or two, spray it once and let it sit overnight...spray again next day.

I agree that PB Blaster is pretty rock and roll, but if you don't want to spend the $4 per can (and it goes pretty quick if you got some rusty parts) you can just use come Coke. Get a can/bottle of Coca-Cola and spray it on the area. There's enough acid in there to break loose the rust and it works better than WD40, IMO. Hmmm, think about that next time you drink that stuff.

That is odd, my bolts broke off on the flanges, all of them!! When I got the last one done the Y-pipe almost came down and busted me in the head Good thing there was something in the way stopping it from falling

Soak in WD40 and use a crowbar and a hammer to wack the flanges loose.

that PB Blaster is some pretty amazing stuff, albeit a little expensive.
