Cant get opti boots on

Finishing up my header/plug/wire install. Got crimps on and taylor 8mm spiro pro wires in the OVC looms and cut. Just cant get the opti boots on the wires. Its almost impossible! Tried soapy water to slide them on but doesnt help at all. I need to get them on in the morning so I can start up the Z. How do I get the boots on????

Use dielectric grase. Usually makes em slip right on. It'll keep stuff from corroding too.

lol although I have a great sense of humor I'm serious. A light film of KY on the opti ports allowed the boots to slide right on. I did the plugs the same way because the MSD 8.5mm boots are freaking huge, stuff works great. LOL but yeah it's kind of funny posting KY jelly in a tech site but hey it worked

Well, we all know that K-Y jelly works for its intended purpose, but I'm not sure I would recommend it (or other home remedies) on the plug wires. I frankly, don't know if it would cause any problems on boot fittings, but why take a chance? I sure don't want to use Dialectric grease in place of K-Y Jelly either.

Dialectric grease is cheap and can be found at any parts store. Buy a big tube of it and you will have it around the house when you need it (the same advice applies to K-Y Jelly ).

Lol, I think I'll try some dielectric grease instead of the KY. Save the KY for wrestling matches at frat parties.

Thanks all.

Cool

You really should have pushed the wire into the boot, brought it out the other end, the crimped it and pulled it back through. Thats why it's so hard to get them on now

I'm doing a write up this evening and I'll post the page tonight on how to do this.

Thumbs up

I used a bit of spray silicone & a piece of sand paper. The went right on. The sand paper is to grip the wire as you push the boot over the end. Just for traction...

Thanks I was able to get them on. Now I just need to put on the opti ends and get them on good enough so they dont stick in the opti if I pull the wire off. Its going to suck routing the pass. side wires behind the pulleys. So far doing the wires is the worst part of this horrible week of installing headers.
