Can a stock OBD2 PCM run a OBD1 LT1?

I am taking my little brother's OBD2 LT1 motor with heads/cam full valvetrain and putting my bone stock OBD1 LT1 motor in his car.
My question is, obviousl my OBD1 PCM can be programmed to run his motor, but can his stock OBD2 PCM run my OBD1 LT1 without any problems? Or am I going to need to buy a OBD1 PCM to run the motor?

I don't think so, because the OBD2 computer relies on a CPS (crank position sensor) which the OBD1 motor wouldn't have.

It should run the car, but you will get an error code for the CPS being unplugged.

Why not just swap the PCMs while you're at it and have his CPS programmed out of the computer since your wiring harness won't have the connectors in it?

Okay so your basically saying to swap the OBD2 computer to go with the OBD2 LT1 into my car and swap my OBD1 computer with the OBD1 LT1 motor?
And this would keep from having to remove the PCS error code?

Which PCM is easier and more mod friendly, the OBD1 or OBD2 PCM?

You will have to modify the OBD2 computer so it won't read the CPS because the wiring harness in your car won't have the provisions for the CPS sensor. The OBD1 computer that's going into your brother's car won't care if there's an extra sensor in the harness since it won't read it anyways. But atleast you won't have to reprogram both computers.

The OBD1 is the more user friendly of the two computers when it comes to programming them.

If you get really industrious, you could also swap the harnesses, but that's a pretty involved undertaking.

I think the engines/trannies should suffice my amount of adventure

Okay, so OBD1 computer/LT1 in bros car. His car should run perfectly fine?

In my car, I can run an OBD1 computer with his OBD2 motor without problems?

Yep, just reprogram the OBD1 computer you stick in your car to match the heads/cam that are in the motor and you're all set.

Cool man, you have been extremely helpful. I was just really worried about the PCS issue, but your response has calmed my nerves.
But OBD1 computer with all of his mods(OBD2 LT1 motor) that is going into my car is the most ideal route. Also is the OBD1 PCM easier to tune? IF not, then why does everyone normally run this PCm with the OBD2 motor.

Glad I could help out. If you've got anymore questions, send me an e-mail or PM and I'll get back to you pretty quickly.

Yeah, the OBD1 PCM is much easier to tune, it's also cheaper to tune since you can use Tunercat. LT1 edit for OBD2 is over $500 bucks.

I'm currently running an OBD1 PCM in my supercharged/cammed 97 TA. Well, it will be running again when the new crank hub gets here anyway. Monday.

The hubs are relatively cheap. Then again, 60 bucks for a hub, and 40 bucks to replace the two belts that got shredded and it does kinda add up.

Yeah it does. Good luck with it. I will probably get back in touch with you when it gets closer to the swap (end of April). Thanks a ton again.
