Can a starter motor, just die!!!!

No notice at all. I went out to my car, just like normal and nothing. The power assec. work fine, with a friends help, I can hear the fuel pump turn on, I can hear the injectors prime. The opti/plugs/wires/coil and coil module are still newish. I hear the soleniod for the starter click while underneath the car. That's it, no noise other than those listed at all. Can starter, just die without waring (it's 3 years old)? Anyone have a pointers for me to do, before I break down and buy a starter? Also, if you believe it's the starter, as well, what types do you recommend. I have a 355 11:1 LT1 1994 Z28. Thanks.

Use a remote starter switch or some heavy wire and at the starter, jumper between the battery terminal and the purple wire. If the starter does not work, then it is bad.

You could just have a cable loose, too.

Thanks, What gauge wire will do ie 14? Just to get it straight (I get a little jumpy around elec.) One end on + of battery, run the other to the Purple wire on starter?

I meant the battery cable terminal on the starter. 14 ga might be a little small. A junkyard trick is just to short across the terminals with an old screwdriver. If you are jumpy, you are gonna bump your head, 'cause some sparks will fly!

Thank you, I'm sure I'll only scream for a little while. A board member, was nice enough to offer for sale, a LT4 starter. How do these rate?

They are supposed to be a pretty good piece.

My car did that, but the solenoid cracked of the starter.

Thanks for all the info guys, I appericate it. The best part was, I was on my to an interview for a medical school I am trying to get into and it had to pick right then to die, but I guess it was better than after I got up there!! I think I'll buy the LT4 starter, then. I get to look real cool peddling my bicycle to school.

did you attempt to jump start the car?

Best thing to do is take it to your local Sears Auto Center and have them run a charging/starting system check for $9.

It's going to be pretty hard to drive it to Sears if it won't start.

Also, I wouldn't even take a skateboard to Sears.

If you have a manual you can do a push start. It takes two people however.

Mine died at 97,000 miles of use . Just like that fine one minute gone the next. You can pull it & have it tested at one of the auto parts stores for free. Just buy a good quality one if your keeping the car. I'm getting real wary of all this aftermarket crap out there. I have had way to many parts fail prematurlely due to low quality replacments.
