Can someone help me!?!?!?!
When I have the car running and open the throttle by hand ont he side of the TB I get a pffft sound and the engine hesitates a bit, and then goes normal. The sound seems to be coming from the airbox. I have been having problems with a really rough idle when the engine is cold or hot. I was wondering if this sound would tip someone off to something wrong. Shoebox mentioned my egr in a previous post. I will check that. Also I was wondering about TPS. I know these dont go bad very often but what would be some indications that its bad?? Thanks for any info you have.
If I read right, the whoosh of air sound you hear is normal. I think your sputtering problem is more related to what shoebox said about your EGR. You might be associating a normal thing with a problem. You may also want to clean your throttle body up a bit. Use some Seafoam Deep Creep throttle body cleaner, brush the blades out and get all that gunk out of there.
Thanks fellas, hey someone mentioned cleaning the TB and I already did that, but thanks anyway. I will have to check that egr, can that be cleaned on the car or do you have to take it off. And if you do, how do you get back there to take it off. Its WAAAAYYYYY back there where you need 3 year old hands to get it. Also, someone mentioned checking the egr, or is it best to just take it off and clean it and try it that way.
Hey man, the EGR is hard to get to. I haven't done one on my car but I did one on my truck last week. There should be 2 bolts one on each side of the valve and the vacuum line on top. after you have those 3 off it should slide off. Clean the carbon out of the sensor and start the engine for a couple seconds then shut it off, this should clear the carbon out of the hole on the back of the man. then install it. If you have a vacuum pump plug that up to the vac port on the EGR when you have it off the engine and see if the diaphram moves.
I did my EGR last week. It was frozen and I did a search and it looked like I should have replaced it but the pricetag was $79.
I cleaned it up instead, squiring gumout stuff inside and gently moving the diaphram back and forth slowly until it moved nice and smoth.

The EGR isn't that bad to get to...just takes some patience.
Two bolts take it on and off. The price should be ~$57 with a new gasket. I believe the manual and auto part #s are different, though.
