Can our cars be tuned to run 87 octane safely?

Thats the question... I'm poor and I refuse to pay for premium. In fact I am even thinking about taking the Z off the road and selling it or letting it sit and buy another vehicle. Screw congress for ignoring the proposed energy bill.....

And there should be oil explorartion in Alaska until they find another source or a way to bring the prices down.....

grrrrrrr.....

well technically you could run with 87. but why premium should only be like 20 cents more than 87 oct. thats only like 2-3 extra dollars a week depeneding on the flesh to lead ratio in your foot.

It's still less. Regular is $2.15 here and premium is almost $2.50. It costs me almost $40 to fill my tank. And the first person that says to me, that we all have to pay that much, can kiss my ***.

I hear ya loud and clear.... I'm a low ranking military man myself. If I didn't live in the barracks I don't know what I'd do. I don't even drive my car much...

Yeah gas sort of sucks but there isn't much you can do about it. It is 2.59 a gallon over here. It cost me like 39.8? to fill it up the other day. The bad part is i gotta do it almost 3 times a week. So its costing me about $100 every week to drive my car. It pisses me off. I'm trying to decide right now if i should sell my car and get like a SRT-4 or something like that. But i don't know how much better that is gonna be on gas.

you know, my friend has a Dodge Neon SRT-4 and they are very comparable to the LT1 performance wise. I bet if you drove it nicely it would be much better since most of its performance comes from the Turbo which won't spool up before say 3000 rpm. I'm highly considering a 2004 Mazda 6. Who knows. If it doesn't get better, I'm gonna sell out on the F-Body community. I just can't take it anymore

BTW: Does anyone have the answer to the original question? With my current tune I cannot run anything besides premium. Technically you're not even supposed to use 87 on a stock tune.

Yeah i know. I really like my Camaro but i just don't know if it is worth keeping it anymore. I can't afford a really expensive car or anything because i don't make that much money but i could afford a SRT-4 and it is a strong car.

uh, the lt1 (I get 28 fwy) gets comparable mileage to the srt-4 (22-30).

power and fuel effeciency do not go hand in hand. if you want to play you have to pay. otherwise, purchase a vehicle that is designed to be economic and fuel effecient.

Just wanted to put my .02 in here.....whoever said you have to pay to play is perfectly correct. I have a Z28 with some minor mods and I also have a 91 Honda Accord. I choose to drive the Z on a daily basis for one reason; because it's a Z. I knew going into this that I'd be hitting the pumps more often, but that goes with the cost of ownership. Yup, it sucks, BAD, and F congress for not approving the energy bill to begin with, but I'm not giving up anytime soon on my Fbod. I'm a college grad with a Bachelors of Science, and I'm working MFing retail, only b/c I havent been able to find a job since graduating a couple of months ago. Very humbling to say the least, but bills have to be paid. Anyhow, I just make that point to make it clear I'm not making crazy money and can afford to be indifferent to the price of gas. Quite the contrary, but I make enough to support my 'habit' ......ok, enough rambling.....blame congress, blame the economy, but we can't hold our VERY COOL cars accountable, can we? And to those considering the neon, consider the whole ricer scene and all that comes with it, before you make any snap decisions. That's all, I guess; flame away.

so pretty much, ummmm.... Screw you too.

I can make myself afford it. I just can't justify it anymore. Maybe I'm growing up too fast or something, but I'm thinking long term economic situation. Not living in the moment.

-_-

Anyway, OPEC controls the oil prices. Bitch at OPEC not Congress. Leave Alaska alone, dumbass. It will be worth it one day. Let the Arabs use all THEIR oil up THEN the world will be looking to US in the future. Although, we may not be alive at that point, but whatever. Living in Houston does have it's benefits. 93 Octane = $2.09
