Can I put a "T" in water pump for PCM water temp gauge and autometer water gauge?

I Just picked up a Autometer water temp gauge and would like to hook it up where the stock water temp sending unit is on the water pump. Can I put a short nipple in the water pump where the old sending unit was, then screw the "T" onto that and have my stock sending unit and autometer sending on both sides of the "T"? Would that screw up any coolant flow or give inaccurate temp readings???? Thanks for any advice!

Don't mess with the sensor on the water pump. It's the sensor that the computer uses to know the temp and operate your engine. There is another temp sensor that is used just for your gauge on the dashboard. It's on the driver's side of the cylinder head, between the first two exhaust ports. If you're going to hack one, use that one.

Also if you want, you can install a temp sensor in the passenger head and use that. The passenger head is same as a driver's side, it just has the sensor hole plugged with a bolt. But I don't know if the signal from a GM temp sensor is correct for your gauge.

The only problem with using the fitting in the cylinder head is that the resulting temperature will not equal the same temperature that the PCM is reading from the water pump. GM makes a connector/sender that allows you to drive the gauge on your dashboard off of the water pump sensor, but I'm not sure if it would be compatible with your aftermarket gauge. The sender is part number 10096181 and 12102748 for the wire connector.
