Can I pull a Valve without removing the head?
Can I pull a Valve without removing the head?
I hate too keep posting about this, but everytime I look at the head I dread having to pull it. I have a valve that is making a bad clacking noise and when I remove the push rod the sound goes away, but I have a miss. I put new lifters in and then somehow bent the pushrod on the very valve thats clacking, so Im wondering if I bent the valve, or what, but its just that one valve(3rd from the back, pass. side on #6). Can I just use a spring compressor and pull the valve out from the top?
Re: Can I pull a Valve without removing the head?
Yes, but its a lot of work. You have to lift the motor to drop the pan. Then unbolt the rod cap so you can separate the rod from the crank. Pull the piston out the bottom, then use the spring compressor to release the valve and pull the valve out through the bottom of the motor.
No, just pull the head.
No, just pull the head.

There's no way to pull a valve without removing the head.
Well technically I suppose you could remove the entire rotating assembly and let the valve take the valve out throgh the block, but that would just be silly...
