Can i lift the motor here?

Those of you who say you can change the oil pan gasket without lifting the motor... you guys are magicians!

I have to lift my motor, but i've searched and I havent found a single thread that shows good aka safe places to lift the motor from.. aka lifting points.

Is it safe to screw in a bolt into the accessory bolt holes in the heads? ( my worry here is soft aluminum)

Or is it better to screw a bolt into the block and lift from there?

I'd rather run a bolt into the block but that's just me

wow.. living on the wild side huh.. not really willing to take that risk. Heard rumors of missing digits relating to jacking up the motor there.

I am in the same battle as you, working on gettin the pan off with the motor in the car. I am replacing the rear main tho, so I have the trans out. then I removed both motor mount bolts. then I just hooked two ratchet straps around the center two header pipes, its plenty strong as my second picture shows.

the big tow rope is just there so when the car falls on me it will take longer to kill me. lol. I was on the cherry picker so i hooked it on. lol

Thanks for posting the pic. I thought about wrapping a strap around my headers, but i havent installed them yet. I think im going to go with a bolt through block on each side to lift it up.

I put the back up on ramps, then supported the front of the car off the ground with jack stand, then I layed directly under the trans, the legs didnt get in my way much.

if you REALLY need to get it out of there then make something using this design. this is made to support the engine (usually FWD, while you take the transaxle out). you can do it with a chunk of junk metal or maybe even wood.

I thought about using these, but with my car's nose in the air..i thought it would be hard to maintain proper balance of the engine cradle.. since it would essentially be mounted at an angle..
