Can I have the MAF programmed out.

Is it possible to have Bryan program my PCM to eliminate the MAF and just put a spacer in it's place. Just run in Speed Density like the 93's. Has anyone does this? Advantages and Disadvantages?

Yes, there is a speed density switch in the computer, which would make the car like a 93.

Disadvantages would be changing weather conditions, which often cause driveability differences, where a MAF car usually has no problems.

So can you just unplug the MAF and run it that way. The SES light would be on, but besides that is there any other negative effects that would harm the car. I realize the best scenario would be to have it programmed out.

I would guess if you disconnect the MAF the computer would see it as a sensor failure and go into limp home mode. Why do you want to get rid of the MAF?

Using LT1 Edit there is a setting to put the car into Speed Density Mode, which of course will not use the MAF.

Disconnecting the MAF will also put the car into Speed Density Mode... but unless you've got LT1 Edit or something else to change the VE tables with, I don't recommend it. That way MAY throw a code, I don't remember.

IF you are looking to run it always in SD mode, I would suggest changing over to the 93 SD PCM, bcuz in the 93 PCM they use a 2 bar MAP whereas the 94 and new use a 1 bar MAP and cant really be used for performance.

i disconnected my maf to check this out, and my car wouldnt even start. after trying several times it finally started and the idle speed varien from around 100-1500rpm. when i put it in gear, the car died. so i dont believe that just unplugging the maf will lork, you must change the computer.

Why would you want to eliminate the MAF? It is a minor restriction and is good up to about 450hp (i think??).
For the .5hp you "could" gain, i don't see the point. The MAF is better at monitoring incoming air than the speed density system.
Interesting question, though maybe someone could explain why this would be a good idea? I think most all-drag setups are running speed density, but that is due to the hp limit of the MAF, correct?
