Can a clogged/faulty y pipe cause misfires?

Question.

Say I have a stock Y-Pipe/Exhaust manifold on my rig with approx 156k miles.

I've replaced every electrical component and am not getting any relative trouble codes.

At times, when the car is at idle, it will hesitate and stall. After letting it sit for a second. Literally. It will restart with no problems.

I will get a P300/P174/P171/P307 from time to time when this occurs.

I have also witnessed chunks of catalytic converter crap coming out. I have three golf ball sized pieces that I've been able to recover but I"m sure that more has come out.

I'm on the road to replacing the manifolds/y-pipes with some LT's.

Do I need to expedite this next mod or am I barking up the wrong tree.

Again, ICM and Opti replaced and have no issues with them. The ICM isn't even getting hot or anything. Nor the coil.

Thanks guys,
Ivan

If the cat blows into pieces, it usually restricts the exhaust. A power loss will definatly be felt. Your in RR so you don't even have to worry about emissions testing. I'd say go for the LT/y pipe.

Most excellent. Yeah, we're gonna order up a Pacesetter setup for now.

I just turned the keys over to the Kid so he's the owner now.

Ahhhh, 18 and the owner of a hotrod Camaro. How nice right?

So that leaves me currently Camaroless, but its part of the New Deal. More to come on that. hehehehe!

He might pop on here from time to time to ask some questions as he's learning.

Thanks for your time. Interesting how there were 40 looks before a reply.

iprice- the codes you pulled out indicate a lean mix posibly causing a cylinder 7 missfire. the cats are deffinatley junk but may not be the root cause of your problem. check for other things that could cause a lean condition like intake leaks, low fuel pressure, bad o2, dirty maf, ect. not saying it could not be the cats but its posible it could be somthin else.

final03- it sounds like you have a differnt problem than iprice. you may need to make a new thread with some more info, like what has been done to the engine, what tests you have already done, what you have tried to fix it, and what exactly the problem is.

I seen your car on CL, didn't get any hits? Looked clean, mines the same color red. Wish I would have got mine that young... way out of my price range a decade ago.
