I changed my water pump a few weeks ago, now it looks like I have pretty serious oil leak from the front of the engine, how can it leak OIL after changing the water pump?

Unless you somehow disturbed the front cover then there would be no way changing a water pump would cause an oil leak. Peace, Dustin.

 

Yes there is a way for it to leak oil. There are two small seals on each side of the Water pump drive shaft, if those seals are missing or damaged and the seal for the water pump drive located on the Timing cover fails he gets an instantaneous oil leak.

I know for a fact it does leak oil. I replaced all those seals for the same reason reason. My Seal located on the timing cover for the water pump drive had failed and the small orings on the drive shaft were gone. I replaced those only 1 week ago. My oil leak is now gone.

Marvin, how do you change those seals, and where can I get them? Do I need to go to a dealer?

No you dont have to take it to the dealer. I have never ever replaced those seals and had no idea how to replace them. The ones on the timing cover are pressed in. The Trick is to remove them without damaging the Soft timing cover. I used two screw drivers and lots of patience. Believe me I know there are people here who would probably replace them in minutes... I took nearly three hours..

Its late here and I am about to go to sleep but I bought a timing seal kit from napa I think and it had all the seals I needed... Timing cover gasket and the three seals that are on it plus the water pump drive shaft O rings too. I ended up bying a Seal install kit from Checkers auto parts and with the aid of a small hammer I pushed the new ones in.... It took me some time to figure out why they were not going in straight but eventually they all ended up in with a perfect fit.

There is a tool to remove seals... go check it out. It looks like it could damage the timing cover but just get the idea how to find leverage and pry those suckers out. It takes some practice... I pulled the Crankshaft seal first and then the opty one. Last one and easyest one (after practice) was the water pump drive seal.

Once you do one youll realise how easy it is.... at first it looks like "**** I will never be able to do this" now I am like I can pop those suckers in minutes.
