Can anyone give me a diagnosis
Can anyone give me a diagnosis
OK. here is the deal... I got a 94 z with basis intake and exhaust bolt ons. My problem arose when my starter quit and left me stranded. I bought a rebuilt one from AutoZone. I was driving home last night and I could smell something that smells like something had burned up. I had my heater on and I think that I could smell it though that. It didnt smell like brakes or clutch or anything. Well then my ABS INOP light and my check gauges light came on and my speedometer needle took off to about 100 mph when I was going about 60 mph but the needel was floating and bouncing at 100 mph. I made it home and when I tried to start it this morning it wouldnt even try to turn over. My question is: Does anybody know what I should try? I will probably try droping in another starter but I really cant make any decision with any certainty. So I thought I would ask "THE PROS". Does anybody have any tricks of the trade or anything that could save me any time money and bloody knuckles
Re: Can anyone give me a diagnosis
I am not a pro but I would get the car scanned instead of throwing parts at it. good luck (edit sorry just read wont start , does it crank at all ?

Re: Can anyone give me a diagnosis
Do you have headers? I have heard of people burning up their starters with heat soak since the primaries come so close to the starter, especially with uncoated headers. You can always pull the starter and have it checked for free at autozone. It isnt that hard to take out, and its probably your problem since you just changed the starter and now you have starting problems.
edit: another thought i just had, if you didnt put the connections back the way they were you could have possibly burnt up the starter's wires, and its possible even if you did put it back together correctly.
