camshaft
camshaft
hey guys i have a 95 z28 and i have the motor torn apart and im looking to do a 355 and was wondering what kind of camshaft, springs, rocker arms, and pushrods to use. i have full exhaust and intake for it. if anyone has thoughts on my build im open to listen thanks.
Re: camshaft
Have you put different gears in the rear end? is it an auto or manual tranny? This makes a difference in your choices. If i was you i'd make a signature so people know exactly what you have... makes it easier to help
Re: camshaft
Gotta know more details man. Biggest would be budget, then what your goals are, what you use it for, etc.
Lots of options with a 355 from mild street to wicked drag monster.

Re: camshaft
Although I'd change the last part to "from something you'll be happy with to something you'll really regret buying". Changing cams is not necessarily easy in these cars.
Re: camshaft
Sorry guys. its an m6, it has stock gears in it now but im going to put 3.73 or 4.10. My goal is to have a quick lt1. would like to be in the 12s in the 1/4. I would like to spend 2000-2500 on the build

Re: camshaft
Ok, let me be more specific. To accurately pick a camshaft and not waste you time/money you need to know specific things. Things like...
Static Compression Ratio
Head, head flow, volumes, etc [stock, ported, aftermarket?]
Gearing [If you have 3.42's factory it's barely worth changing unless you go more than 3.73 in my opinion]
Car weight
Car usage [daily driver, strip time, etc]
Desired Fuel
Budget [How much do you have to spend on valvetrain, cam, rockers, lifters, etc vs entire build budget]
Desired street manners, idle quality, etc
Shift points
The list goes on...
...answer those questions and everyone here will use their combined knowledge to help you pick the best camshaft for your application.
The XE503 isn't a bad camshaft for off the shelf, but that's not to say it's the camshaft for you.
Lot of roller rocker options. Comp Ultra Pro Mags are very nice, so are Crane Golds, Harland sharp, Crower Enduros. Depends on budget. Then you have to decide on 7/16 vs 3/8 rocker studs, nonself alingning vs self alinging, rocker ratio, etc. I do not recommend random EBAY or chinese rockers.
Then you've got spring options, single, beehive, dual springs. As you can see there are many options and routes to go with this.
Pushrods: .080" wall 5/16 pushrods will work fine for your build. Trickflow seems to be the best budget PR for the money. I've used Trickflow and Comp with good results.
That being said a XE503 can get you into the 12's as a cam only option.

Re: camshaft
Well this is my daily driver. im getting 4.10 gears. i was thinking about going with the cc306 with the 1.6 ratio rockers but i dont know what kind of springs or puchrods. if there was a kit with the cc306 i was going to get that. I might port the heads. i plan on going with 93 octane.
