I am helping my friend put together a 383 for his 94 formula. The block is off to be machined and it will be recieving a new 383 rotating assembly. He is ordering a cam kit from combination motorsports. He has already talked to them and just needs to make his final decision. We will be using ported stock alum heads. They will be cleaned up and blended but not "hogged out". It will have headers/exhaust of course. I think he is getting 3.73 gears soon. It is an auto. It has a stock stall, but will be upgraded in the near future. The car will be mostly driven on the street, but will probably see the track some on weekends. We have been looking at something in the range of the cc306 or the extreem cam around that size. He is supposed to let them know tomorrow what he wants. I just wanted to check w/ you guys and see what you thought would be a good selection. Are we on the right track?

Might want to look into the 236/242 XE cam. Don't be afraid to run a larger cam, that extra stroke and piston velocity will really help to tame a cam. For reference the stroker I am currently having built will use the 242/248 XE cam.

 

I'm using the GM 847 (234/242 .050) and it runs very strong with 11:1 compression.

 

in my 383 i am running 11.25:1 compression and my cam is 236/248 .594/.579 112 dont know if that helps but thats what im runnin
