cam useable on stock lifters

okay well i have to replace the headgaskets so im going to upgrade my cam while im in there, and possibly port the heads. anyways i was wondering what cam would be comparable to a cc306 and still be able to run with stock lifters for awhile. i know i would have to upgrade my springs but im short on cash right now and would eventually ugrade to 1.6rr. what cam will work with the stock lifters? please any help would be appreciated

Well they will all *work* but if you have a considerable amount of miles on them, it's a good idea to replace them. They should work fine either way though.

Also, you WILL need to replace the springs with something better if you're going with anything bigger than stock.

I have a 233/239 at 112 and it works pretty good. It's comparable in size to a 306.. you can go with a 306 too, it's up to you.

EDIT: Do you mean roller rockers or lifters? The roller rockers are under the valve cover. Lifters are in the lifter galley under the intake manifold.

Why don't you go with a hotcam kit if you're on a budget? It makes very respectable power and it comes with everything you need at a very reasonable price.

Re: cam useable on stock lifters

ive heard great things about the cc306 and i didnt really want to get a cam then after the work and money decide i cant really feel the difference. i may resort to that though if 1.5rr cant temporarily be run on new cams. thanks for your help.

Re: cam useable on stock lifters

Trust me, you will feel the difference. On stock heads, the hotcam will make only about 10 RWHP less than a 306, which is not bad at all considering its price.

You can run a 306 on stock rockers temporarily, but you still need to replace the springs.

This is an excellent cam for you. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMESE%3AIT

Yes it is mine, but think about it. It is just like the Hotcam w/ stock rocker and gets a big jump from the 1.6 rockers making it a .565 on intake and exhaust. So you can run it like it is until you can save up to get the rockers. Just a thought. The dowel pin is for the vented opti already to.

sorry about calling them roller rockers, but im glad to see you can point out my mistakes but not comment on whether 1.5 rockers will work on a cc306

Yes, you can. There is no reason you could'nt. With 100k miles on your motor, I would change cam bearings, and run conventioal dino oil for the rest of it's stock lower end life. Just because it's a little thicker and you don't want to spin a bearing on that thing after that much work.

Re: cam useable on stock lifters

Do some research. The cc306 makes its power up high and you have 100k+ on your short block. I would plan on a rebuild immediately after you installed that cam. Take madwolfs advice and look at smaller cams. A big cam like the cc306 really makes gains over smaller cams when you have the heads to allow it to do its job. Also why wouldn't 1.5 rockers work with that cam?
