cam too big?
cam too big?
i am building a 383 forged, 200 shot, and was going with a xe236 (230/236 dur. - .544/.555 lift - 112 lsa) cam, but found a deal for a custom grind cam (242/248 dur. - .540/.563 lift - 110 lsa) ...car will have stock heads for about 6k miles till i can afford porting them ...what do you guys think? i like all the specs except for the 110 lsa, i dont wanna turn that many rpms...other mods in sig on the 95 m6
i know the cam is too big for stock heads, but i cant afford to do the heads now, nor buy two cams for in the future, the heads will be ported probably at the end of this summer, but the car needs a motor in it, and im not changing the cam with the heads...
custom grind as in it was a custom grind for someone elses car and you are buying used?
I wouldnt do that, get a cam for your setup. Get the heads now... if you cant afford it then hold off... no need to do things half assed. Then call up your preferred cam company (IE Isky, Comp, etc) and tell them your info and have a custom grind made for your setup.

im asking peoples opinions on it this cam will be too big for a streetable car with my setup...not opinions on what i should spend my money on, not how i should build my motor
building a motor for ported heads, running stock heads temporarily, and putting on ported heads in 5 months is not half assed, im spending the money for the forged parts and all the good stuff, so now i cant afford heads just yet, but a head swap is a piece of cake, alot easier than rebuilding a motor cause its got ported heads and cast bottom end and blew up, and holding off is not an option, i need a car for school, and i have to get this on the road, the only way i can get a forged 383 in it, is to lay off on the heads for a few months...if not, i will be replacing it with a stock motor, untill im ready to put the 383 in it, so i may as well do it now

Im guessing this is your daily driver? The cam would probably have to have a decent tune to be streetable. However you do have the advantage fo the extra cubes, so I htink besides possible ****ty brakes and some cam surge you might be OK. What gears will you be running?

Didn't fully understand your question, I thought you were asking about the cam because you said the only thing you didnt like about the cam was the 110lsa.
but
...in that case... like others said have it tuned and it wont be that much of a problem....

It's way to much cam for a stock head motor. A bad mismatch. You will not be happy, IMHO.

That doesn't seem like a good nitrous cam to me. Only 110 lsa with 242/248 duration sounds like lots of overlap.
