Cam/ swap questions

I've done alot of searching on here but couldn't find a good timing set for a cam swap in a 93 camaro. Should I get a stock replacement chain and gear set, or does anybody make a better one? I have a delteq setup and don't want to spend the $$ to switch to a vented opti setup, when I don't NEED a new opti lol.

Also, will my LT4 valvesprings work with 1.6rr's and an xe230/236 cam?

I'm having my heads ported and polished as well, and was wondering if it would be a good idea to go with bigger valves at this point?

The car is a 93 Z28 with most bolt ons and weight reduction, it currently turns 12.4 at 108, but its time to go faster

TIA
Clint

Re: Cam/ swap questions

I believe the LT4 Extreme Duty timing set would work fine for you.
IMO you would be over the limit of the LT4 valve springs with the 1.6rr and that cam. If I hade the heads off and the $$ I would go ahead and do the valves and upgrade lifters and pushrods if you haven't already done so.

Not sure if the LT4 Extreme duty will work on a 93?? I replaced mine with a stocker. You already have hardened pushrods so you are ok there. You will definately need to change springs...I went with the Crane 10308 kit. Good to .600 lift, double springs, no machining required. If you got the $$$ then do the valves. Come check out the speed density board at http://www.speeddensity.org/

The LT4 ED set has no way to turn a splined opti, so it will not work.

Unless you want to spend serious $$ or convert to vented, you are stuck with a stock replacement.

I have used the lunati set on many cars with good results. Its about 110 brand new. Definately upgrade your springs, and if u are porting the heads u would be smart to get the valves while your there.
