cam swap, oil pan question?

just getting ready to install my timing cover and was wondering how far to lower the oil pan, and do you guys loosen all the oil pan bolts all the way to the rear of the pan? on the 1st gen cam swaps i used to trim the timing cover tabs so the timing cover slid into the oil pan easer.
I just need some time saving tips. thanks, Curt

Lower it as far as it will go against the K-member.

You don't have to take the pan all the way down. Take off all but the back few bolts, and just loosen those. The pan has to drop down about an inch. Lower it slow, you don't want to rip the pan gasket.

I always replace the pan gasket with a one piece Felpro blue gasket. You can actually clean the pan and just slip it over and into place. Just a thought.

Ditto what Spartan7 said. I did not replace the gasket but did use a decent amount of sealant at the front/timing cover.
