Cam swap on factory heads

I am currently in the process of purchasing all necessary parts for a cam swap on my 97 t/a.

So far I have
comp 224/230 w/112lsa
918 springs, locks retainers
lt4 extreme duty timing set
30lb svo injectors
bbk 52mm tb

I am going to purchase the following,
comp pro magnum 7/16" nsa roller rockers
gm guideplates
arp rocker studs
all necessary gaskets

My question is regarding pushrods. If I reuse my stock lifters will a 7.2" rod work or do I need to measure using the measuring tool, and then pick up some pushrods locally? What should I use as a solid lifter to measure correctly, I've read about using a 3/8" bolt?

Thanks and feel free to comment on my parts selection.

Re: Cam swap on factory heads

You could just use a 7.2". Many people do. But its better to measure and be sure. I know I wouldnt do it with out measuring. The stock length is 7.2, but if you compare it to a Comp Hi Tech 7.2, the comp is a hair longer ... Some food for thought on that one ...

Also, as for using a solid lifter:

Dissasemble one of your lifters. Grind a 3/8" bolt until it is the correct length where when you place it in the lifter, it comes out to being the same height as the lifter would be without any tension pushing dowon on the pushrod cup ( I worded all this really retarded ... Cause, I suck at typing. Do a search on it though, Bret makes it easier to understand that I can)
