Cam swap @ 140K

I am thinking of throwing in a cam after I get my jet-hot long tubes. The car runs perfect, but with the high milage (mostly highway) I am worried about how the motor will hold up. Anyone done a cam swap with a high milage lt1?

Its been done before, JeffStar did his home ported heads and Cc306 at a little over 100 and made 390 at the wheels. His car ran like a beast. Kremnic did his cam swap at about 140K too.

Don't see why not. I do, however, see a rebuild in my crystal ball. Not sure how many performance LT1's make it to 200,000 miles....damn maintenance nightmares...

yep, age/milage doens't really affect a cam swap, although it is a good time to replace the valvetrain and timing chain.

Most LT1's I've read of last well over 180,000 miles and as high as 250,000 miles without a rebuild. Never heard of one seizing or any catastrophic failure without some abuse, or heavy modifications. Not saying it HASN'T happened, just that it's not very common. The LT1 is the best smallblock GM ever made IMHO.

168000 miles here...Thought about doing the LT4 HOT cam myself..but I think I'm gonna wait til winter when I'll probably just rebuild the engine.

Before you do, invest 17.95 and have your oil analyzed. My car has 111k and I was going to do a heads/cam. I sent the oil out to blackstone labs in Indiana and got my results back. Basically they said my bearings were starting to go so I decided against doing anything on the current shortblock.
