Cam for the stock heads/sotck convertor?

Right now I'm lookin at the crane 210/224. Mods are in sig. I want a cam that has good streetability, but good power, and the 210/224 looks like that is the cam for me but I'm still lookin for other options. Anyone have any advice for me?

I just installed the 210/224 and really like it. If you are looking for a lot of
lope than you need a bigger cam. This cam has a very very minor lope but
lots of low end power. Pulls strong to 6,000.

Are you going to dyno again after you put in the cam?

im putting in a gm847 with ported heads and stock converter. Car has never seen the track and probably never will - i'll let u know how the driveability is when its done.

Re: Cam for the stock heads/sotck convertor?

I used the Comp Cam XE 224/230 112lsa with stock heads and converter and it is great! Can't really tell any loss of low end torque and pulls to 6200 rpm and lopes very nice. I had my tune done by Bryan @ PCMforless. The only complaint I have with the cam is at idle with the stock converter you have to push on the brake more at at complete stops. This is because Bryan has to up the idle when in gear to keep the cam from loading up and stalling. No regrets whatsoever!

I'm willing to bet that either the cam gets changed to something milder or a converter/gears get installed immediately.

I agree, that 847 cam is rather large for stock heads, stock stall A4...that will need a serious tune for any driveability, not to mention a better stall...

Re: Cam for the stock heads/sotck convertor?

im thinking of getting 3.73s to replace the 3.23s. Heads are ported. I'll have a vacuum cannister so idle will not need to be adjusted for brakes. Planning on a madz tune.

With my tires spinning so much, i wouldnt mind losing a bit of bottom end as long as it screams up top.

If things become unbearable, i'll save up for a t-56 swap.

Re: Cam for the stock heads/sotck convertor?

With a T56 you might want even more gear than that. I played the what cam for stock heads/stall game, then eventually did a stall. If you get a good TC you can have stall and great drivability, there is no reason to keep the stock TC. Your mod dollars will be better spent on the TC for now rather than the cam. I really wish I had done the stall first.
