Unless you already have an ED set, you can't mix it with the other stock components. IIRC, the ED set is a roller type and I know the stock set is a link-belt type.

If I look on the gm parts web page, it says the Extreme Duty kit consists of the heavy duty chain and crank sprocket used in the zz 350? I see the one you gave me is different? The ones it gave me part numbers for are 14088783 (chain) and 14088784 (crank sprocket)?

That dont help me any... if you go on gmpartsdirect.com and type in the p/n for the ed timing set at the bottom of the description it has a p/n for the crank sprocket and timing chain used in the ed kit.. So will 14088783 (chain) 14088784 (crank sprocket) work with the 12555885 (cam sprocket) shoebox gave me? Or is there another timing set out there cheaper than $250 that is good for a mild 383?

Yes, those are the part numbers that makes up the ED set, but maybe cheaper to buy the set (incl the w/p gear) than buy them separately.

It's up to you, if you want to use a stock set. Probably ok, if you are not revving it to the moon all the time. If you want the better set, use the ED.

The cam gear above is a non-LT1 cam gear for a regular SBC. It has no provision to run the water pump.

Run a $79 Cloyes double roller. Better than all other alternatives. Problem solved.

If he had given that info in the beginning, it sure would have saved a lot of trouble. Run the Cloyes 9-3145 and be done with it.
