Cam Spec Questions

Alright, I have looked at different cams thoroughly so this isn't exactly a "what cam should I get question?"

I DO NOT want to spin my motor up to 6500 rpms because it is a stock rotating assembly and I really don't want it to let go.

I run N20 and have looked at the cc306 and the Hotcam, but the new Xtreme Energy cams are a little new to me and their numbers seem kind of radical.

Anyone running a 125 shot and one of those new cams?

What would you guys do?

The leakdown test wasn't bad, so I am not too afraid to cam it.

Re: Cam Spec Questions

The stock rotating assembly is actually pretty strong. I'm certainly not the expert, but I was informed that the cc305 is a very good nitrous cam. My engine went 10.2 in the 1/4 mile with the cc305 on a 250shot.

Re: Cam Spec Questions

As a side question, what are you guys spinning your stock assemblies to?

I'd really prefer a smaller cam that made more midrange power then having to spin my 80,000 mile motor up to high-heaven to make a few extra ponies.

Anyone have a suggestion for that?

Crane 227?

I like more top end power out of a LT1 cam because the LT1 by nature already has a ton of low end.

Re: Cam Spec Questions

A great all around cam is the XR276HR-12 or 503-8. It's 224/230 112 Lsa with 1.5 lifts of .503/.510. Mine, on a 104k stock longblock made peak hp numbers with 1.6 rockers, 1 3/4 LT's, and a 52mm tb at 5800 and stayed dead flat to 6300. I took mine up to 6800 through the traps. Ran 11.70's with an A-4 through a 9 inch. If I had listened to people about these ATI converters, it would have been faster. I love it! See if you can pick one of those cams up on EBAY.

Re: Cam Spec Questions

Thanks!! That is exactly what I am looking for.

Those 11.70's were on the stock block...what about the heads?

Does it have the nice lope?

Who tuned it?

And where did you get your 9" from??

How are you doing that with the stock pcm ?

It is a Moser 9" bolt in with 31 spline axles. Yes, the block and heads were untouched and never apart. I gotta tell ya, it's a mean little cam and sounds great. My tuning was done by MadZ and he nailed it. I had a 7.39 8th mile once and had to let off at the end after running over tranny fluid. It was an 11.68 pass that was in my grasp! You need good springs because the valve events are pretty quick and will float.

Dunno... I always herd that the PCM is supposed to shut off the fuel or shut the car down at 7200 but I guess not.

Re: Cam Spec Questions

Where can I get a Moser 9"? I was looking online, but couldn't find anything but the 12 Bolt.

What springs did you use? The beehives I am guessing, but a part number would be sweet.

Did you end up spinning a bearing or something requiring a rebuild??

I bought the rear directly from Moser.

I used CM612 springs with a hydra rev from AFR. Don't do it this way, use a spring that puts you at 150 seat pressure (call comp) to get the full potential out of the cam. The 918's put you at 130 I think but I don't know when they float. Maybe someone else can chime in. I've heard of people having good luck with the Rev 1116's dual springs.

I didn't spin a bearing or anything, I just wanted to go faster!

You really should. At least get rid of the stock stamped ones, they're pretty weak. I got comp pro mag 1.6 RR.

Yes I did. I used a set of Crane Blue Racer's for 7/16 studs and used guideplates. I am currently using them on my solid roller motor. The Pro Mags are nice if you are made of money!
