Which Cam Should I Go With?
Which Cam Should I Go With?
Well I think I've made my decision to go with a cam, rather than juice. So which one would you suggest?
GM LT4 Hot Cam, 218 / 228, .525 / .525 112
GM Part # 12480002
N218K
Comp Cams Xtreme Energy 218/224 Cam .528"/.536" Lift
I can get the Hot Cam for around 470 shipped from Jason Cromer and programming for the HotCam will be easier too. The N218K kit is from Combination Motorsports for like 578 or so. So which one would you go with? Both are on a 112 LSA.
Thanks, Rich

It all depends on how far you want to go, between those two cams Id go with the Hotcam kit, since Brian can program a hotcam with his eyes shut and two broken arms. If you plan to go further or want something bigger, theres a ton of others out there, Im sure you know that though. Thats my .02
The only thing is that those are basically the same, so tuning should be almost identical, so you might want the CC cam for the steeper ramps. And personally I would rather have all CC in my valvetrain than GM stuff.
Well if I go with the CC cam what about considering this on too? This is also a kit from Combination Motorsports.
N224K
Comp Cams Xtreme Energy 224/230 Cam .536"/.544" Lift
Do you think that'd be to much for my stock torque converter? What about Tuneability?
Thanks for your help.

Rich, you didn't mention any other mods to go with that cam. I would tend to agree with you that the CC224/230 would perform better with a higher stall, as with other mods such as exhaust, heads, etc.
I'm freshing up my 5yr old build up. I pulled my Crane out last week and found worn oem lifters and cam lobes
The Crane 210/224 is a very nice street cam with no other mods or tuning required, but I want to take a step up. So I just purchased the CC218/224 after some consideration. I could have used the CC224/230 with my mods. But, I am more conservative on my cam selections for a daily driver. I believe I've gained some wisdom over the years
I hope to have it installed by this weekend and will report my experience once I get it set-up and tuned.

Rich, if you are not planning any additional mods from what's in your sig, I'd suggest the CC218/224. But I am biased at this point having just purchased the 218/224. Many on this board go for the biggest cam they can possibly run, but that is not my approach or advice.
I believe either of the cams that you are looking at would meet your needs.
