cam/rocker install - car wont idle anymore
well 2 weeks ago tore apart my engine to do cam install-
Parts installed -
CC XE 230 / 236, .510 / .520 112 LSA Cam
Comp Cams 26918-16 springs
Comp Cams 787-16 retainers
Comp Cams 601-16 valve locks
Comp Cams Pro Magnum 1.6 RR
ARP 7/16" rocker studs
Comp Cams 720H-16 pushrods
New Valve seals
AFR guide plates
LT4 timing chain
okay- we installed everything and started her up and she ran perfect except a high idle (1100) - I drove the car home and ran great the entire way would idle at a stop and good throttle responce. Well 2 days later i started the car up and she was running rough and having trouble idling, drove her around my parking lot and she wouldnt idle and would only run if i kept giving her gas.
popped the hood and found i had a cracked coolant hose which started spitting on my opti , and found a huge crack in my PCV line- So i cut out and replaced the coolant line and capped my TB and put a breather on the valvecover. Still wouldnt idle on her own- Today just threw in a madz28 tuned computer into her hoping it would fix the problem but hasnt done a thing.... she wont idle without gas.
Any suggestions on what this could be- so far i think possibly
a) vacum leak
b) IAC
c) MAP
d) valve lash too tight
e) opti ?
i checked and all vacum lines look seem fine- all plugs are plugged in and cleaned my IAC but that doesnt seem to help - car isnt throwing any codes and my EGR , rear o2's, and AIR have been deleted from the computer and car-
Other issue which may be- is when we rebuilt car we powdercoated my intake manifold, alternator and bunch of brakets- Well alternator is not working since- and so i drove home on battery- when i found the coolant leak my battery was nearly dead and since has died. So maybe the issue is charging related?
If i jump my car and start it- can the battery hold enough of a charge to idle if i leave the bumper cables connected-?

Re: cam/rocker install - car wont idle anymore
Well, if its not charging, then it wont get a strong spark. If theres bad spark, its not going to idle well. Get the alternator going good first and see what happens? What do you have to loose? It needs fixed anyways, and theres no sense in throwing money and time into it that it doesnt need.
Although the Opti does suck massive ****, I have gotten mine wet a few times and the car would run like junk for a day ( Or refuse to start one time, for like 2 days ) but once it dried out, it was fine ... Dont run and buy a new Opti unless you know its bad.

Re: cam/rocker install - car wont idle anymore
ya thats the game plan - as far as opti i have a new one laying around from a previous problem i just dont want to tear the front apart to get to it again-
ill get the alternator running and then start trying to diagnose the problem i guess-

Re: cam/rocker install - car wont idle anymore
figured id update :
bad news: the powdercoating got in the bearing channel of alternator and thats why the car was able to run at first. alternator was somewhat working untill it destroyed shaft. so shop tried to clean out powdercoat and ground too much away destroying housing- so now hes building me a new one
good news: all the car problems were just because of the alternator not fullyworking and then eventually dieing
shes alive and fully tuned - will have some videos up this weekend -
